On the One Show this evening I’ll be visiting Stow Maries, an amazingly preserved WW1 aerodrome near Chelmsford, Essex.

It was abandoned after the war and lay undisturbed for years. As a result, it’s become an incredible bird and wildlife haven. Owner Russell Savory has really encouraged the bird life and also designed a number of feeding stations that make for great photographic opportunities. Hares in particular are abundant and very used to cars – making them (for once) quite easy to photograph.

Couple this with a visit to the mini museum that’s set among the old aerodrome buildings and it makes for a great visit.

SNOW!!

For once in life, I was up early this morning and managed to cover the 200m from my house to Queens Park in NW London early enough to photograph the fresh snow before it was scooped up for snowballs or rolled into snowmen. I was late to meet a friend for breakfast as a result (sorry Dan), but it was worth it.

In pumped up colour…

With an early morning runner generously providing a focal point…

and in black and white, which on reflection I think I should have over exposed a little…

I spent a few months earlier this year writing the scripts for the latest season of epic survival series “I Shouldn’t Be Alive”, which plays on Animal Planet in the U.S.

Watch the action-packed trailer here to give you a taste of what’s to come this year:

Slight late notice, but the latest One Show story went out this evening on BBC 1. You can watch it on iplayer.

It was a fantastic day investigating the early military aerial photos taken from a balloon as it cruised over none other than Stonehenge. A fantastic – albeit short – flight.

Enjoy.

Keen on photography? Want the wider world to see your photos? Then I’ve got good news.
I’m working with Yahoo on a major photography campaign to encourage people to get out there and take photos. From now until Christmas we’ll be publishing your best shots in galleries on Yahoo news pages across Europe.
All you need to do is upload them. Just sign up to Flickr (a free online album) and join the “Yahoo! Your Pictures” group, that I’m editing.
The group’s welcome page has all the info about the project and we’ll look forward to seeing your shots.

Thanks to all those who watched “Mayday Mayday” on ITV last night. It peaked at 3 million viewers. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series just as much.

All the best,

For the past two months, I’ve been writing and producing a new series for ITV 1 called “Mayday Mayday”. It starts broadcasting tonight at 7.30. Presented by Craig Doyle, it’s a series that follows the work of the RNLI lifeboat teams that patrol our 19,000 miles of coastline, refloating sunken boats, rescuing swimmers and keeping the seas safe.

Here’s a link to ITV’s press release on the show: “Mayday Mayday”

Hope you enjoy it.

In last night’s One Show adventure I was photographing squirrels with legendary flash expert Kim Taylor. Tonight, I head off with former Wildlife Photographer of the Year Ross Hoddinot looking for dragonflies.

Watch the story on The One Show on BBC1 at 7pm.

Here’s the leaping squirrel shot that came out of it.

Hi all,

In case anyone happens to be at home and near the telly this coming week, my series of One Show wildlife photography stories will be running all week. This year we headed out with wildlife photographers who have honed their skills in niche photographic disciplines to become the masters of their craft – whether it’s macro photography of insects or high-speed action shots. I zipped all around the country learning from the experts to produce the series of five stories.

Hope you enjoy them. They’ll be on The One Show every night from 7pm on BBC starting on Monday September 5th.

If you miss any, you’ll be able to catch up with them on BBC iplayer.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Jamie
