TV Production

I spend much more time working behind the camera than in front of it. I’m a cameraman/director, producer and script writer for channels on both sides of the Atlantic. Credits include:

Ladyboys (Sky) – Producer and Director

A small team of us spent two months in Bangkok filming the world of Thailand’s infamous ladyboys. For us Brits the instant stereotype conjours images of fake-breasted prostitutes dangling from the arms of ageing western men, and while there are plenty of those there are also a huge number of feisty and fascinating transsexuals in Thailand looking for a better deal out of life. I shot and directed two of the 6 hour-long episodes and worked as a producer on the others. It’ll be broadcast first in the UK in April 2012 on Sky Living.

Mayday Mayday (ITV) – Writer and Producer

Up and down Britain the volunteer lifeboat crews of the RNLI save dozens of lives every single day. In this series, which I wrote, produced and filmed, we join teams across the country as they come to the assistance of everyone from a capsized sailor to a gaggle of seasick sightsee-ers, out-of-their-depth dogs to the spear fisherman who accidentally shoots his best friend. Presented by Craig Doyle.

Tornado Rampage 2011 (Discovery) – Writer and Producer

A one-hour Discovery Special that we researched, shot, edited and delivered in just over two weeks about the record-breaking tornado outbreak of April 2011, when more than 200 twisters swept through the south-eastern USA, killing over 300 people.

Seconds from Disaster: Bhopal Gas Spill (National Geographic) – Writer, Edit Producer

A forensic historical documentary blending interviews, CGI, archive and drama reconstruction to investigate the accidents and errors that triggered the deadly Union Carbide gas spill in Bhopal, India. 3,000 people died overnight and a quarter of a million suffered crippling health problems in the 20 years that followed.

I Shouldn’t Be Alive Seasons 3, 4 and 5 (Animal Planet) – Series Script Writer, Producer, Edit Producer

From the true story of the “Perfect Storm” to a back-from-the-dead climber rescued from Everest, the world’s luckiest or unluckiest survivors (depending which way you look at it) tell their stories, accompanied by dramatic reconstructions. I’ve worked on this show on and off for the last two years, finding stories then directing interviews with the survivors, then editing the final films and now writing all of the scripts.

Richard Hammond’s Engineering Connections (BBC/National Geographic) – Writer, Edit Producer

Richard Hammond investigates marvels of modern engineering and discovers how designers relied on ancient engineering solutions to overcome complex construction conundrums.

Infested (Animal Planet) – Writer, Edit Producer

A series of drama documentaries retelling families’ nightmare stories of animal infestations from plagues of rats to billions of bedbugs.

Future Earth (MSNBC) – Development Producer, Writer, AP

A documentary series examining the future of resources and potentially cataclysmic fallout of global energy and water disasters.

Tsunami: Caught on Camera (Channel 4) – Development Producer

Five years after the Boxing Day tsunami killed more than 230,000 people around the Indian Ocean, we relive the experience through interviews with and footage filmed by those who survived it.

In Too Deep (Animal Planet) – Writer, Presenter – nominated for Best Presenter at the Wildscreen Panda Awards

A full-throttle wildlife adventure series investigating how animals adapt to surviving in the harshest environments on Earth, from the swamps of Borneo to the Alaska’s frozen wilderness.

Wild Animal ER (Five) – Writer, Development Producer

An observational documentary series set at St Tiggywinkles, one of Britain’s busiest wild animal rescue centres.

The Choir With No Name – Producer Director

This is a short film I made about London’s first choir for homeless people. The Choir With No Name is a fantastic charity, founded on the premise that singing makes you happy and helps you forget about all the trials and tribulations of life.

Please watch the film and if you enjoy it visit the choir’s website on www.choirwithnoname.org. I hope to see you at one of our gigs soon.
