Although I’m no longer a full-time Reuters journalist or travel writer, I try and write whenever I can for whoever will let me. I spent a year researching and writing travel books for the Greenwood Guides. Other publications that I’ve done freelance articles for include the Guardian, Independent, BBC Wildlife, BBC Knowledge, CNN Traveller and Traveller Magazine.
Here are links to a selection of those articles and books.
BBC Wildlife

Here are stories I’ve written for BBC Wildlife Magazine. Click on the titles to read the articles:
Caiman Country – The Esteros del Ibera wetlands – a giant freshwater marsh on the border of Argentina and Paraguay – aren’t on the wildlife tourist trail, but they should be.
Hungry Like A Wolf – A simple trip to photograph wolves for the BBC One Show became a face to face encounter (and mouth to mouth in fact) with a hungry pack.
Animal Adaptations A break down of some of the animal adaptations we covered in Animal Planet series In Too Deep, and how those compare to the capabilities (or frailties) of the human body.
Tales from the Bush Notes and anecdotes from seven months of non stop adventure.
Celebrate the rainforest a book review on the latest in depth guide to the jungle.
The Greenwood Guides specialises in hunting out the friendliest places to stay in countries including South Africa, New Zealand and Canada. I spent a year working with their publisher Simon Greenwood. Over five months, another researcher and I drove some 36,000km and visited more than 500 places to stay in South Africa to complete this places to stay book. I then spent a further seven months researching and writing a second book on everything from hot air ballooning in the bush and ballroom dancing, to shark dives and Zulu history.
If you’re heading to Southern Africa (or Canada, Australia, or New Zealand) be sure to pick up a copy. They really are stuffed with an amazing array of guest houses, B&Bs, game lodges, self catering villas… you name it. I can certainly vouch for the African ones, as I stayed in most of them.

I travel to Argentina a fair bit and try and write freelance pieces each time I go. Here’s the latest one on a new dining trend: Buenos Aires’ secret restaurants.
